How to get Rid of Fruit Flies

Fruit flies are the little flies who which sit on your unrefrigerated fruits in your kitchen are probably. They are also known as vinegar flies. They are really hard to get rid of but with a good plan of attack you will be able to.

These Fruit flies will lay 500 eggs at a time near the surface of ripening fruits. They can also lay their eggs in sink drains, garbage disposals, empty bottles and cans, garbage bags, and even damp mops and sponges.

First step into getting rid of fruit flies is by eliminating the sources of breeding. Do not leave onions, tomatoes, or potatoes outside. You should keep them in the refrigerator until you get rid of the fruit flies in your home. Always clean your recycling bins, and make sure you clean up the cans frequently. Also make sure you clean every corner in your kitchen.

Traps are a solution too. you can find disposable fruit fly traps at any hardware store.

You could create your own homemade trap by forming a cone-shaped funnel with a piece of paper, sealing it with tape, and sticking it into a clean jar or wine bottle. Bait the jar with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or a slice of ripe banana. Place one or more of these traps on counters or in pantries where the pests are seen most often. The flies go in easily but can’t fly out. After you trap all visible flies, kill them with spray or release them outside. Rebait and replace jar traps, if necessary.
